Edward B. Flink is a founding member of Flink Smith LLC, the successor to Edward Flink & Associates, which Ed formed in 1995.  Before forming his own firm, Ed was a partner for 12 years in a firm which he started with a classmate from law school.  Ed began his career as an associate with the Binghamton, New York based firm of Hinman, Howard & Kattell.

Ed graduated from St. Lawrence University in 1973, and Albany Law School of Union University in 1977.  While in law school, Ed was a member of the Albany Law Review from 1975 to 1977, serving as Notes Editor for the 1976 to 1977 academic year and also working for a prominent local law firm and for the New York State Legislature.  Ed is admitted to the New York State Courts, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of New York, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, N.D.N.Y. and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.

Over the close to 30 years that Ed has practiced law, he has been fortunate to serve as counsel in myriad cases, ranging from the representation of securities brokers and dealers and their employees, and business people and entities in commercial and employment cases, to the whole array of insurance and personal injury, products liability and malpractice matters, representing both plaintiffs and defendants.  Ed has taken dozens of verdicts in numerous trials in state and federal court, but takes equal pride in his ability to help his clients discretely resolve their civil and criminal matters, without going to court.  Throughout this time, Ed has always had a busy business and real estate practice, making him well equipped to run the firm’s new Lake Placid office, as well as maintain an active practice in the Capital District office.

Ed has had a long commitment of service to the community and the bar, serving as an officer and member of board of directors for various local community organizations, including the United Way, Center for the Disabled and Downtown Day Care Center.  Ed is on the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association Torts, Insurance and Compensation Law Section, and serves as Co-Chair of the NYSBA Committee on the Tort System.  Ed has also lectured at various NYSBA and AAA CLE programs on trial practice and insurance law.  Ed also serves on the Board of Directors of the Albany County Bar Association for whom he ran the annual high school mock trial tournament for over 15 years.  He is also a member of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers, Trial Lawyers Section of NYSBA, the Defense Research Institute of Northeastern New York and the Essex and Rensselaer County Bar Associations.

Ed heads up the firm’s management team, helping steer the firm in its consistent growth.  When not working, Ed enjoys spending time and doing sports and outdoor activities, with his wife of more than 32 years, Ellen, and their three children, Aaron and Rachel who have already left home, and Becca who began her freshman year of college at Emory University in Fall 2006.
